To import an asset tree from a Microsoft Excel template

  1. First make sure you have a Microsoft Excel file ready in the correct format. If not, first Download the Microsoft Excel template for Asset Import and populate the file with the assets to import.

  2. Choose a system or subsystem (serial or parallel) in the tree to import the objects to.

  3. Open the context menu by right clicking the chosen system.

  4. Choose Asset Import in the context menu (this option will be disabled if you do not have write permissions for that object. In that case, contact a user with administrator rights to request permission if desired).

A pop-up panel will appear that will guide you through the import process.

  5. There are two options how the asset structure in the Microsoft Excel file can be interpreted. Choose one of the options:

    • Subsystems only: all nodes defined in the Microsoft Excel file will be considered to be serial systems in Asset Strategy Optimization, resulting in a structure of only serial systems.

    • Leaf nodes as parts: All but the leaf nodes of the structure defined in the Microsoft Excel file will be considered to be serial systems in Asset Strategy Optimization; the leaf nodes will be created as parts.

  6. In case of creating leaf nodes as parts, there are also three options two create additional objects as substructures of the parts that are created: dummy components, failure causes and Failure Based Maintenance items (FBM); when selected each part will also be extended with one of these items. They are ‘dummies’, meaning they will be created as bare objects, no properties filled in yet. Select zero or more of these options.

  7. Select Browse to continue.

  8. When the structure in the Microsoft Excel file is well formatted, the tree structure will reappear.

  9. To view the newly imported structure, expand the tree at the position where the import was done.
