The function Labor provides the following:
-
Define Maintenance costs based on man hours and personnel types
-
Edit hour rates updating the corresponding costs
-
Use standard rapports with cost categories that include costs from required man hours with current rates
Background
In Asset Strategy Optimization it is possible to specify costs per maintenance category type. For example, for a maintenance action it can be defined that it requires € 100 worth of materials and that €126 would be spent on personnel costs. These personnel costs may be made by several suppliers, each with their own rates.
Example
This example will use the following:
|
Role |
# hours |
Rate |
|
Supervisor |
0.5 |
€80 |
|
Mechanic Class A |
1 |
€60 |
|
Mechanic Class B |
2 |
€50,- |
|
Manager |
0 |
€120,- |
|
TOTAL |
3 |
€200,- |
Using the function Labor several disciplines (or personnel types) can be defined with an hour rate and the number of man hours needed to perform a maintenance action. The total can subsequently be stored as cost category which will provide information about cost totals including all specified costs.
1. Activating
-
To use the function Labor, you need to first activate it in the menu Extra -> Options -> GUI settings

2. Defining Employee types
As a next step, it is required to define the employee types with their corresponding rates that will be valid for this model.
-
From the left pane of the screen, right-click an FMECA system.
-
Choose the option 'FMECA-level Settings' and open tab 'Employee Type'.
Employee types are always FMECA system specific.
Note: If the option is not visible, then enable FMECA-level settings. For more information, see FMECA-level settings.

You may add new Employee types using the New button. Add a name and a rate in the entry screen. Use the Edit and Delete buttons to make changes. Also indicate the cost category the costs will be booked on. In the example above 'Personnel' is chosen. This means that in report 'Costs' all man hours will be summed and displayed with cost category 'Personnel'.
3. Use of personnel types with maintenance
After defining the above settings the number of man hours can be indicated on maintenance level for the defined employee types. Open a maintenance action and inspect the 'Labor' field in the Property Grid (or select tab 'Labor' in the Properties screen).

The screen above indicates which type of labor is defined and what rates are used for labor. The 'Labor' related fields can be used to specify how much time is spent per employee type to perform the maintenance action. Asset Strategy Optimization will automatically calculate the total costs for this maintenance action. In the section/tab 'Costs' the total labor costs (in this example €200) can be found linked to the cost component that was defined in the FMECA-level screen (employee type), in this example ' Personnel'. Possible other cost categories are listed here as well.

4. Reports on 'Costs'
Reports on labor, e.g. 'Total costs per type', will show labor in the cost category defined in FMECA-level settings. In the example above: 'Personnel'.
