Merge copy

The merge copy is a specific copy action only applicable to the Part object. A common way to build an asset tree is to obtain a basic structure from an external system that is detailed up to the part level. The part will carry the actual name and tag from the external system. The details of that part, however, together with the failure behavior, can often be found in the Library. Using the merge copy action, it is possible to combine existing information on the part in the asset tree with the information available in the Library, without losing essential information such as the name and tag values. Meanwhile, the underlying structure of the part template in the Library will be copied over, too.
During the merge operation, the following takes place:
-
All properties of the Library part that have been selected in the 'Part merge field settings' (this is configured in the desktop application, ask your system administrator about the current settings), will be copied over to the existing data in the part.
-
Any existing components, failure causes and maintenance data in the target part will be deleted.
-
All underlying components, failure causes, maintenance, and UBM-high data from the part in the Library will be copied underneath the part in the Asset tree.

Example of the settings in the 'Part merge field settings' in the desktop version.
