Property Grid, Scenario screen and Property Form

Property Grid

The FMECA screen and FM Library contain the Property Grid. This is a panel that shows all relevant data for selected objects in the tree. As soon as the user selects an object in the tree, the Property Grid will show the corresponding fields. The user may change those fields in the Property Grid. When leaving a field (by clicking elsewhere, or by pressing the Enter or Tab buttons) any changes made to the field are automatically saved.

Navigating with the Property Grid

It is possible to navigate to a next or previous element in the tree by using the arrow buttons at the top of the Property Grid

Placing the Property Grid

By default, the Property Grid is activated and docked to the right of the screen. The user can move the Property Grid to another location by simply dragging it elsewhere. Handles are shown in the process indicating the possible new docking locations. By releasing the mouse on one of the handles will dock the Property Grid on the new location. Options are: top, bottom, left or right.

Another possibility is to make the Property Grid 'float' anywhere on the screen. This can be done in one of the following ways:

  • Right-click the top of the Property Grid and choose 'Float' from the option menu. The Property Grid will now float and can be moved anywhere on the screen where it will behave as a separate window. The user may change its size.

  • Drag the Property Grid to any location. Doing so will automatically make it float.

Docking and floating

A floating Property Grid can be docked in the default position (right side of screen) by right-clicking it and choosing 'Dock' from the option menu.

Auto-hide

The Property Grid can also be collapsed into a side-tab called Property Grid. This is called auto-hide. Click the pin-symbol to make it collapse. By clicking the side-tab the Property Grid will reappear. Clicking outside the Property Grid will make it collapse again. To dock it once again, click the side-tab to make it appear, then click the pin-symbol to undo the auto-hide behavior.

Disabling the Property Grid

The Property Grid can be disabled altogether from the configuration file Asset Strategy Optimization.exe.Config in the Asset Strategy Optimization installation folder.

In category AppSettings, change the value true to false for the following settings:

<add key="ShowPropertyGrid" value="false" />

Scenario pane

The scenario pane is used for simulation. As long as no simulation is being used, the screen is not needed. By default, it is collapsed and shown as a side-tab. More information can be found in the chapter Simulation. The scenario pane is a pane just as the Property Grid and behaves similarly. See the earlier sections to understand functions like docking, auto-hide, and so on.

Tip: The scenario pane cannot be disabled in the configuration file.

Property Form

An alternative to the Property Grid is the Property Form. This is a separate screen that is opened when the user double-clicks an object in a tree. The fields that are also shown in the Property Grid, are arranged here in various tabs.

This screen has been present in previous versions of Asset Strategy Optimization and may be preferred by some users over the Property Grid.
