CLM - Composing a Clustered Maintenance Actions

  • Last UpdatedJun 20, 2025
  • 2 minute read

When creating a CLM (Clustered Maintenance), users can select from the preventive maintenance actions to be included in this CLM. In the bottom part of the screen, a preventive maintenance action can be selected. The preventive maintenance actions displayed here are not yet included in a CLM. Preventive maintenance already included in a CLM will not be shown in this list, because each preventive maintenance action can only be included once in a CLM. Then by clicking on Add to CLM, the maintenance action is moved to the top part of the screen. To delete a maintenance action, users should select it in the top half of the screen and move it to the bottom half of the screen by clicking on Delete from CLM. At least one maintenance action must be added to a CLM.

Choosing maintenance actions

A CLM can be placed on different levels in the FMECA tree. The chosen location defines which (underlying) maintenance actions can be linked. Asset Strategy Optimization will automatically display a list of all underlying UBM's and UBM's (inspection) to choose from.

If the CLM is complete, the screen can be saved and closed, using the Close button.

Moving CLMs

Once maintenance actions have been linked to a CLM, there are restrictions to where the CLM can be moved in the FMECA tree. Since the scope changes with a move action (there will be different underlying maintenance actions after a move), the following possibilities and restrictions will be applicable to moving CLMs:

  • A CLM without linked maintenance actions can be moved to any other logical position

  • A CLM with linked maintenance actions can be moved while retaining the linked maintenance actions, only if moved upwards in the hierarchy, as long as the original location will remain a child to the new location; this way the linked maintenance actions will still be part of the list of underlying maintenance actions

  • A CLM with linked maintenance actions cannot be moved to any other location as long as the maintenance actions remain linked. This will result in an error message. Only when all linked maintenance actions have been unlinked, can the CLM be moved anywhere.
