FMECA System

  • Last UpdatedJun 03, 2025
  • 3 minute read

The FMECA System is the basic object needed to construct a structure. It cannot stand on its own but is always contained in a FMECA folder. The FMECA System has a one to one relationship with the Model, which is created together with the FMECA System on the middle panel. The Model is the framework for the system decomposition that can be constructed in the middle of the screen.

There can be multiple FMECA Systems, that can be exported and reused in other Asset Strategy Optimization environments, or be imported from other Asset Strategy Optimization environments. To be able to work with a model, the corresponding FMECA model should be selected first from the folder structure on the left of the screen..

Creating a FMECA System

To create a FMECA System:

  1. Open the FMECA screen.

  2. In the left folder structure, right-click a folder and select New > System.

  3. In the Property Grid and Properties Screen fill in a name for the FMECA System. For example, 'Bicycle'.

  4. Click outside of the name field to save the name.

  5. Optionally supply a description of the FMECA System in the field Description.

Mark that the name given to the FMECA system will appear in both the folder structure on the left and in the FMECA-tree in the middle of the screen. The names can be changed independently of one another, but it is advised to keep them identical.

  6. Optionally, add other data to the model, see the instructions in topic Model.

Tab FMECA System - General

Double click the newly created FMECA System to open up the Properties screen for the FMECA System. Here, in different tabs, details can be edited, just like in the Property Grid. The user may have a preference in which way to make changes.

Here the user can freely choose a name for the object. A logical name would be the name the object has in real-life. The name will be copied over to the Model which will be created together with the FMECA System. The model name and the FMECA System name can be changed independently from one another.

Description

A description of the FMECA System may be provided here (optional); it can contain more than 1500 characters.

Permissions

This is a button (as is the tab on the Properties screen) which will open the permissions screen. To learn more about setting permissions, read Asset level authorization - setting permissions.

RCM Data- Copy risk data

This is a button (as is the tab in the Properties screen) which will open a dialogue screen to copy risk data from existing FMECA systems, instead of entering them manually. To learn more, read  Copy risk data.
