The measurement grid is a spreadsheet-like two dimensional grid which allows you to enter any measurement data associated with a crude oil, its fractions or streams. You can type values into the grid, or paste values from other applications, and associate properties or streams with each of the rows or columns.

There are several ways of adding data to the Measurements grid. You can:

  • Open a crude from the Database into a document. Each crude in the database was originally worked-up or generated from measurement data. It is possible to transfer the underlying measurement data for a selected crude in the database to the measurement grid using one of the database open options. Opening a crude from the database automatically sets up the rows and columns of the Measurements grid to correspond to the streams and properties in the underlying measurement data for the selected crude.   • Import a crude. You can import measurement data from either a .cdb, .agf file, PIMS or PMF file for use in the Measurement Grid. When importing a crude as .cdb, PIMS or PMF file, the crude will be imported to the User Database. To make use of the measurement data for the crude, you need to open it as the relevant document type, as mentioned in the previous bullet point. When importing a crude as an .agf file, the measurement data will be imported directly into the relevant Document. See Import crude data and User crudes.

  • Paste data from another measurement grid or from an external spreadsheet.

  • Create a new grid from a template See Create a new grid from a template.

Of course you can also enter properties, streams and values manually, as described in the following steps.

  1. Add properties

    Add property. Double click areas to change property and unit.

    A column in the grid (or a row if the grid has been transposed) will contain all the measurements for a particular property, for numerous streams.

    To add a property, double click a cell in the Property row or column. on the first cell, to open a list of properties. Start typing to display a list of matching properties, which is automatically filtered as you type. Choose the desired property and set any other quantities, such as the temperature for the density.

    To specify a unit for the property, double click on the neighboring cell in the Unit row or column to open a list of available units.

  2. Add streams

    Pane Add streams.

    To set the name of a stream, click on the first cell of the row or column and type the name.

    To set the start boiling point for a stream, click on the second cell and type the temperature value. You can also enter IBP to indicate that the stream starts at the initial boiling point of the whole crude (for example, condensates).

    To set the end boiling point for a stream, click on the third cell and type the temperature value. You can also enter FBP to indicate that the stream continues to the final boiling point of the whole crude (for example, residues).

    Tip: To change the default temperature units for the start and end boiling points of cuts, click the menu button to the left of the Home tab, in the top left corner of the application window, and choose Preferences from the menu. In the Preferences dialog, select the Regional Settings page and change the temperature unit for Boiling Point to your desired temperature scale.

  3. Enter measurement values

    In addition to entering values by hand, you can use the Fill Measurements with Cut Values function, available from the right-click context menu. This allows you to select a crude from the database and populate a selected range of cells in the measurement grid with values obtained by recutting the selected crude to the streams and properties of each cell. For cells in the selected range that do not have properties or streams defined, values left unchanged; otherwise, the existing values are overwritten.

    You can fill measurements with cut values for both contiguous and non-contiguous selection areas. You need to select an entire row or column to fill in all values for the corresponding stream or property.
