Generic feedstock

Given the increasing prevalence of bio-feedstocks (such as vegetable oils) in the refining space, there is growing interest in characterising such renewable feedstocks alongside traditional crude oils. Therefore, a new Generic Feedstock document is now available in Assay to support the work up of non-crude feedstocks.

This new capability can be found alongside the existing work up documents such as AssayWorkup and allows generic feedstock data to be entered, stored, and shared across the organisation via CrudeSync.

The generic feedstock measurements can be retrieved by others for use in making purchasing and processing decisions. This Generic Feedstock module supports the entry of bulk property information for the feedstock, and currently does not predict data for properties where measured values are not entered.

The properties for the generic feedstock must be entered in the first column of figures. There is no support for cut values.

Additional physical and chemical properties which are of interest for bio-feedstocks have been added to our reference data.

After entering generic feedstock data, you must Generate to incorporate this feedstock into the database. The feedstock characteristics are then available to view in the Database View by configuring a Cut column for the "Crude (IBP-FBP)" cut.

What you can do with generic feedstocks

  • You can blend generic feedstocks with other generic feedstocks.

  • You can view generic feedstocks to see the measurement values in the Database View by configuring a Cut column for the "Crude (IBP-FBP)" cut.

  • You do not have to fill in all the possible property values.

  • Process Model Manager is able to use generic feedstocks.

  • You can generate reports to output bulk property values (using "whole crude values"). For example, Blue Book and Crude Summary reports.

What you cannot do with generic feedstocks

  • You cannot blend a generic feedstock with an assay or assay blend.

  • You cannot use generic feedstocks as a basis crude in Assay Update or Assay Workup.

  • Assay cannot predict other property values that are left unfilled.

  • You can only define a single cut for a generic feedstock, since distillation and boiling profiles are not represented. Therefore only a single column of property values can be entered in the measurement grid.
