PMF file import

The PMF file format is a crude data file format for PassMan (PIMS Assay Manager).

Selecting PMF File from the Import menu will launch the PMF Import Wizard. This consists of three pages. At any stage, you may proceed to the next step by pressing the Next > button, return to the previous page by pressing the Back button, or abort the import operation by pressing the Cancel button.

PMF files may have a variable number of crudes per file, and a variable number of properties presented per crude oil. The wizard extracts the list of properties, and offers you the option to amend any which have been read incorrectly.

On any page of the wizard, standard copy and paste functionality is available from the right-click context menu, enabling you to copy and paste data between the PMF Import Wizard and the various document types. In addition, the state of any check box on any page may be toggled by pressing the space bar.

1. Choose a source PMF file and select assays

   

   First choose a source PMF input file (.pmf), either by entering the filename or by browsing for it. On loading the file, the wizard will show you a list of crude oils present in that PMF file. These may be selected or deselected as desired in the list on this page, by using the check box next to the label of each crude. After this, press the Next > button. The crudes will be imported, and summary information pertaining to the reading process will be displayed in the information pane below the crude list.

2. Modify any incorrect properties

   

   The wizard identifies the properties present in the PMF data. The first column allows you to deselect any properties which you do not wish imported into the Assay crude database. Any properties that have been misidentified can be corrected by means of the Property and Unit columns. The Property column allows properties to be changed using a Property Control and the Unit column allows you to change the units.

   If the properties which you require are not present in the current Property Control lists, it is possible, at this stage, to launch the Property Manager and Correlation Manager to define the new property you require. See Properties and correlations.

   When this step is complete, press Next >.

3. Import the crudes

   

   The final page lists all the crudes which are now available for import. You can import the crudes using any one of a variety of import methods. In particular, you can choose to import the crude assay data only, or process the data as it is read in using the generation facilities of a Document. You can select the import method from the Method combo box.

   Pressing the Import button starts the import procedure. An arrow indicates which crude is being imported at that time, and progress during the import of each crude is indicated by a bar in the Progress column. If during the import, you wish to abort the operation, the Stop button may be pressed. The pane below the crude list presents any important messages from the import engine, which you may wish to read to check on the status and validity of imports. On completion of import, each crude shows a tick mark in the Status column.

On completion of the Import Wizard, press the Finish button to exit the wizard. Just like any other user crudes, the imported crudes will be available in the Database.
