To activate the profile tracing behaviour, make sure the correct crude is selected by checking the Graph legend.

Enter a value for either the X axis or the Y axis value in one of boxes in the upper part of the dialog. The corresponding value for the other axis will be shown, and the Graph will show a line extending from this point on the Property Profile to both the X and Y axes, annotated with the X axis property and Y axis property values.

The property graph in tracing mode.

Alternatively, click once on the Graph. The point on the selected crude's Property Profile nearest to the position where you clicked will be calculated, and the X axis property and Y axis property values will be shown both on the Graph and in the dialog box.

Both the X line and Y line drawn on the graph may be selected and dragged to a new position. When you move the cursor to either line, the double-arrowed cursor Icon resize icon. Two vertical bars, each with a horizontal arrow that points away from the other bar, representing a pulling apart will appear, allowing you to drag the line to a new position. Values both on the graph and in the dialog box will be instantly updated.

Normally when dragged in the graph view, the lines jump to the next graph interval. If you want the lines to move more smoothly, press the shift key while dragging with the mouse.
