Database updating (CrudeSync) settings

Database updating preferences control the dynamic updating of the Assay database via the CrudeSync crude database synchronisation service. See Update your crude database.

Update checking settings

You can control how Assay checks your CrudeSync data provider for database updates by setting your Update Checking preferences. The following options are available:

• Check for updates on application startup: Select this check box to check for database updates on application start-up. If database updates are found, they will be retrieved automatically from your CrudeSync data provider and imported into Assay. To disable checking for updates on application start-up, clear the check box.

• Automatically check for updates: Select this check box to have Assay automatically check for database updates at regular intervals. If database updates are found, they will be retrieved automatically from your CrudeSync data provider and imported into Assay. You can specify the period between checks by entering a duration in the accompanying boxes. To completely disable automatic checking for updates, clear the check box.

Note that you can also manually check for database updates at any time by clicking Check for Updates in the CrudeSync group of the CrudeSync ribbon tab. See Check for updates.

Connection settings

The Connections section displays status information about the connection with your CrudeSync data provider. The Server field identifies the CrudeSync server to which you are connected. The Port field identifies the port on the CrudeSync server to which you are connected.

The Server and Port fields are read only. They are pre-configured in your version of Assay to point to your CrudeSync data provider.

Authentication settings

You connect to your CrudeSync data provider using an account on the server. To access your CrudeSync account, you need to supply appropriate login credentials. Two forms of login authentication are supported in Assay:

• AVEVA Connect Authentication: Your CONNECT login credentials are used to access your account with your CrudeSync data provider.

• Integrated Windows Authentication: Your Microsoft®   Windows® login credentials are used to access your account with your CrudeSync data provider. There is no need to explicitly supply a user name and password in this case. Integrated Windows authentication is primarily intended for use with enterprise-level subscription-based services where the CrudeSync data provider is hosted internally by your organization.

• Basic authentication: A user name and password distinct from your Microsoft® Windows® login credentials are used when accessing your account with your CrudeSync data provider. These credentials can be obtained from your local administrator for AVEVA products. To explicitly specify your user name and password, enter the appropriate details in the Username and Password fields. Basic authentication is used with the default database updating service in Assay, and with subscription-based services to the CrudeSync data provider from AVEVA. See Check for updates.

After changing authentication methods or modifying your account settings (when using basic authentication), it is recommended that you test your settings for connectivity to your CrudeSync data provider. To test your connection to your CrudeSync provider at any time, click the Test Account Settings button.
