BlendAnalysis

Assay allows you to determine the volume or weight proportions of crudes which constitute a blend, based on limited measurement data for the blend. In addition, it can use known constraints on the proportions to resolve ambiguities, and provide a more certain analysis of the blend. The crude which is generated may be added to the database and then manipulated in the same way as any other crude in the database.

You can use BlendAnalysis in a variety of situations, including:

When you are uncertain of the exact proportion of crudes in a mixture. For example, if you are uncertain of the exact ratio of crudes in a storage container, but you know what the crudes are and have a rough idea of their mixture, you can use BlendAnalysis to calculate the proportions of constituent crudes.

When you have limited information on a crude blend (blend determination). For example, if a new blend appears on the market, and you hear it is a blend of three crudes for which you have details in the database, then, given some limited information on the blend, you can use the BlendAnalysis tool to calculate the likely proportions of each constituent crude and reblend the constituent oils to give you complete information on the blend.

When you want to blend several crudes so that the blend has particular properties (targeted blending). You can enter the constituent crudes and the property values in the BlendAnalysis tool and find out what the blend ratios would need to be to achieve the closest possible match to the ideal property values that you want.

Note that BlendAnalysis can only be used when a representation of each of the constituent crudes is present in the database.

To create a new BlendAnalysis documents, do either of the following:

• Click the button at the bottom of the Navigator pane and choose BlendAnalysis from the menu.

• Click the New button in the Document group of the Home ribbon tab and select BlendAnalysis from the menu.
