BlendAnalysis documents can be used in the following situations:

Known Blend Analysis

To determine the proportions of known crudes in a blend of crudes, given limited measurement data for the blend.

Determining the amounts of each of a set of known crudes mixed in a refinery storage tank.

Targeted Blending

To find the proportions required to create a blend with particular properties from known constituent crudes.

Determining acceptable limits of crudes in a mixture which is to be fed through a pipeline, given particular viscosity constraints.

BlendAnalysis assumes perfect mixing of the crudes in the blend. It is quite common, for example, in storage tanks for the crudes in the blend to become stratified. The BlendAnalysis tool should be used in such a case only when there is good mixing in the tank, and when the measurements of a sample can be considered to be a reliable guide to the mixed contents of the tank.

A BlendAnalysis document requires the following:

  • Measurement data for the blend.

  • A list of constituent crudes for the blend, optionally with estimated proportions, and constraints on these proportions See Add crudes to the BlendAnalysis below.

BlendAnalysis produces as results:

  • A set of calculated percentages of the constituent crudes (in both weight and volume proportion) which, when used as blending ratios for these constituent crudes, will give as close a match to the measured data as possible. You can assess how closely the generated crude values match the entered crude values by checking the generated values shown in the value cells. See Generated values.

  • A representation of the reblended crude according to the calculated percentages.

The reblended crude may be added to the Database and analysed just like any other generated crude.

A BlendAnalysis document's primary purpose is to provide the blend ratios when they are unknown. The crude description that is produced is simply a blend, and consequently, just as a Blend document, does not have associated uncertainty information.
