Worked example: List all the crudes in the database whose names contain the word 'light'.

You can quickly filter on a word pattern by entering the pattern in the Textual Filter pane, using * as a wildcard for letters or groups of letters you don't know. Using this technique you can easily identify which crudes have a name containing the word 'light'.

  1. Create a new filter

Ensure the Database is open by clicking Database in the Navigator pane.

Main Assay screen with database open in the navigator pane

Select Configure Filters from the Filter menu in the View group of the Home ribbon tab. The Filtering Configuration dialog box opens. Click the Add Filter button Icon Add a new filter. Shown by two arrows, a red mark and a plus sign to create a new filter. In the Enter name for Filter dialog box, enter the name of the filter as Light Named Crudes Filter. Click OK to create the filter.

Dialog Enter name for filter, filter set to "Light Named Crudes Filter"

  2. Configure the filter properties

To match crudes whose names contain the word 'light', you need to configure a new textual filter condition. To do this, click the Textual Filter option button. Select Name from the When drop-down list and matches from the middle drop-down list. Enter the wildcard string *light* in the final text box.

Filter configuration Textual Filter where name matches "*light*"

Tip: You can reuse text you entered to construct previous textual filter conditions. Simply select it from the text box drop-down list.

Click OK to complete configuration of the filter and to close the filtering dialog.

  3. View the newly filtered list of crudes

The database filters the crude list so that only those crudes whose names contain the word 'light' are displayed.
