Tension control

Tension control. Whether the curve is as smooth as possible or fits as close as possible to the points. Shows a slider with the label "Tension" and a numeric value between 0 (points) to 1.0 (smooth).

It is possible to adjust the tension of the profile which is fitted to property measurements and guide points. A higher tension indicates that the fitted profile is as smooth as possible at the expense of precise matching of the measured values, while a lower tension indicates that the fitted profile will match values at the expense of smoothness. The tension value is parameterized to lie between 0 and 1. An intermediate value usually results in the best compromised between smooth fitted profiles and value matching.

To adjust the tension, ensure that the graph information dialog is visible by pressing the Icon Graph Information. Shows a spreadsheet button on the graph toolbar. The tension control, present at the bottom of the graph information dialog, can be used either graphically by dragging the tension control, or numerically by entering a value into the corresponding box.

The fitted profile should update instantly to reflect the change made.

Note that when first launched for a given property, the tension control in the graph information dialog will show a default tension value, which can be set using the Property Manager.See Specify Fitting Behaviour in Add a new property.
