Update an assay with an IR spectrum

A Real-Time Crude licence is required in order to enable the IR page in the AssayUpdate module, and the Real-Time Crude Assay option in the New assay menu. For more information on Real-Time Crude, see Real-Time Crude overview.

Note

Once an assay has been created from a spectrum file, it can be used and updated in the same way as any other assay.

You can update an assay using data from an infrared (IR) spectrum file. The steps are described in the following sequence.

1. Go to the IR page

   

   Open a new AssayUpdate document and go to the IR page. See Infrared (IR) spectrum page.

2. Import spectrum

   

   Navigate to the folder where your IR spectrum file resides. Select the spectrum file. If this spectrum is for a crude that is similar to an existing crude, then set Use Base Crude? to Yes and select the basis crude, otherwise set it to No. Note that if no basis crude is selected, then you must enter at least one crude measurement in addition to the spectrum file. Click Next >. The file is imported and shown in the graph.

3. Check basis crude and information page

   

   When you import an IR spectrum with a basis crude, then the basis crude in the Basis page is automatically set to the correct assay, and several fields in the Information page are filled accordingly. Review these settings and change them if needed.

4. Add measurements

   If required, you can enter additional measurements in the Measurements grid, as described in Enter data into the measurement grid. Note that if you imported the spectrum file with no basis crude, then you must enter at least one measurement value.

5. Generate the crude

   When you have entered all the data, click the Generate button in the Assay group of the Home ribbon tab.

6. Save the crude

   Once the updated assay has been generated, save it to your user database by clicking the Save button in the Document group of the Home ribbon tab.
