The Existing Filter option provides a powerful mechanism for building a new filter from existing filters. To add an existing filter condition, set the Existing Filter radio button option.

Existing Filter option allows you to base a new filter on an existing one

An existing filter has two parts: a list of filters from which you select the filter on which the new filter is to be based, and an operator that controls the behaviour of the filter.

You can select the existing filter on which the new filter condition is to be based from the drop down list. Any existing filter can serve as a basis on which a new filter may be built. If necessary, add additional filter conditions to the filter condition list to construct the new filter. The resulting filter combines both the conditions of the existing filter with any new conditions you might have added. See Add a condition to a filter in Create a filter.

You can control the behaviour of the filter using the Invert check box. If you wish to match against all crudes that do not meet the filtering criteria of the filter, tick the Invert check box. Otherwise, leave it clear.

Note that, when using a filter based on existing filters, changes to the underlying filters are also reflected in the overall filter built on those filters.

For an example of constructing a new filter from an existing filter, consider the filter Light low sulphur crudes shown below:

To construct a new filter Recommended light low sulphur crudes based on the preceding filter, create the new filter. Select the Existing Filter radio button option and choose the filter Light low sulphur crudes from the drop down list. Create a copy of the filter condition Filter "Light low sulphur crudes" using the add filter condition icon Icon Add showing plus sign. Change the copied condition to a flag filter condition by selecting the Flag Filter radio button option. Then set the flag filter condition to Is Recommended to create the new filter shown below: See Create a filter.

Applying the new filter matches all crudes in the database matching the filter Light low sulphur crudes and which are recommended.
