Enter distillation unit parameters

The separation efficiency for a distillation unit can be entered directly in the Flowsheet Manager, or in the Flowsheet Parameters grid. For each stage of the separation you must enter the following information:

  • Product Name

  • ECP

  • Stripping FI

  • Rectifying FI

For a discussion of the meaning of these terms see Select a separation model.

After entering any flowsheet parameters to prevent Flowsheet fitting changing the entry click the Lock Parameter icon Icon Lock paramenter. Shows an open padlock. The icon will change to a locked padlock Icon Lock parameter. Shows a closed padlock to indicate the entry cannot be changed during distillation unit fitting. The value can still be manually edited by the user however. To allow flowsheet fitting to change the parameter click the Icon Lock parameter. Shows a closed padlock icon again to unlock the entry and refit the distillation unit data.

Tip: Locking parameters is not generally necessary and you should allow the fitting algorithm to determine the best overall set of fractionation parameters based on your entered data. Where you do not have extensive or accurate data it may be appropriate to estimate fractionation parameters and lock these - for example if you have a poorly defined overhead stream estimating and locking the overhead/naphtha cut point and fractionation indices may help improve the overall fitting in this region.
