After entering an assay, it is typically necessary to validate the content of the assay. Common problems that can arise include erroneous values in the original crude assay, and user error in entering the crude assay data. The measurement grid allows sophisticated validation of data of various sorts, including the following:

  • Validation of property measurements against stream definitions. One or more property values are not appropriate for a particular stream. Cells corresponding to these property/stream combinations are shaded in grey to indicate this. You can nevertheless enter values, and they will be taken into account as far as possible when constructing the property profiles.

  • Validation of property-specific ranges and of user-defined 'normal' property ranges. Two sets of ranges are stored per property, namely a range outside which a warning is given, and a range outside of which the value is invalid. For example, you might expect a warning if the sulphur value falls outside the range 0-5%, and you would expect to be told that the value is not valid if it falls outside the range 0-100%.
    In the following figure, the Sulphur value is invalid for the HVGO cut (above 100%) and triggers a warning for the Vacuum Residue cut, since the warning threshold has been defined at 5%.

  • Clear graphical assessment by cell shading to indicate inconsistent values. Cell shading is used to highlight when values are inconsistent within a given profile. The deeper the shading, the greater the inconsistency. You can gauge the numerical quality of the fit from the upper right hand corner of each cell, which shows the value derived from constructing the property profile.
