Open existing assays as documents

Existing database assays can be opened as a document. This document will show all the measured data associated with that assay. If this assay has been obtained through a marketed assay service, the data shown is calculated through a standard template and does not represent the original measured data.

To open an existing assay as a document, do one of the following:

  • Right-click the assay and select Open With from the context menu, then choose the appropriate document type to open the assay in. If the selected assay was originally entered using Assay, the original document type for the assay is highlighted in black.

  • Right-click the assay and select Open Special. This option allows you to open a shared crude for editing on the server, and it automatically locks the crude to prevent other users from changing it. Use the Select Module list to choose the document type in which the assay will be opened. Select the Don't lock, edit a local copy check box to create a copy of the crude instead of editing the original on the server.

  • Right-click the assay and select Open & Lock With.... This option is a shortcut for Open Special. It allows you to open a shared crude for editing on the server, and it automatically locks the crude to prevent other users from changing it. The assay is opened with the document type it was originally entered with. For example, if the assay was produced with Blend, the menu entry will read Open & Lock with Blend.

  • Select the assay and click Open in the Document group of the Home ribbon tab.

When opening an assay in a document, the original document type used to create this assay, if any, is shown in bold text in the list of available document types.

Tip: When the database is in focus, you can open a single crude in its default document type by selecting the crude in the database and pressing Ctrl + T. If multiple crudes are selected, or if the selected crude has no document type associated with it, then no action is taken when Ctrl + T is pressed.
