Create custom report templates

Custom report templates must be edited in Microsoft Excel (or compatible), and then saved in the correct folder location for the product to recognise them. To create a report template:

  1. Create a new Excel workbook, or create a copy of an existing template.

  2. Enter data retrieval calls in the different worksheets to retrieve crude data, See Define custom report templates.

  3. Save the new Excel workbook in the folder described below.

The custom report definitions used by the product are saved in the folder

%AppData%\Spiral Software\SpiralAssay\Common\ReportDefinitions\ExcelTemplates

Where %AppData% is the Windows application data directory for the logged in user.

For example, for the user jdoe, the default path would be

C:\Users\jdoe\AppData\Roaming\Spiral Software\SpiralAssay\Common\ReportDefinitions\ExcelTemplates

It is possible to enter %AppData% directly in the Windows Explorer dialog to browse to the correct location.

Create the ExcelTemplates directory if it does not exist already.

Tip

Create a copy of an existing report template as a basis for a new report, and modify this with required properties. For example, create a copy of one of the predefined templates included in the Common\ReportDefinitions folder of your Assay installation.
