Connect to AVEVA™ Insight

Connecting a Server to AVEVA™ Insight requires that the Server must be a public server on the internet that has been certified as a secure server (https). There are number of steps to obtaining a public secure server and providing encrypted identification keys to AVEVA™ Historian, so that you can access data from AVEVA™ Insight.

Before starting, see Requirements for AVEVA™ Historian integrations.

Step 1. Obtain an AVEVA™ Insight Solution account

Obtain an AVEVA™ Insight Solution account with access to an AVEVA™ Historian database.

Step 2. Configure an AVEVA connector

For detailed steps to configure an AVEVA connector, see Configure an AVEVA connector.

Step 3. Verify data is coming through

  1. Confirm that the AVEVA Connection ConnectionState property has status of Connected.

  2. On the AVEVA Variable, double-click the Sample Stream property to see data.

Step 4. Create a secure public Server

You will need to obtain a public static IP for Server.Register a public domain name for Server. When you have this, configure the domain DNS to point to the public static IP address of the Server.

Step 5. Purchase and install SSL Certificate

  1. Generate CSR (Certificate Signing Request)

    1. Use Microsoft IIS Manager to generate a CSR (Certificate Signing Request).

    2. Search for online instructions on how to generate a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) for your site.

  2. Purchase and create the SSL certificate

    1. Purchase a SSL Certificate for IIS.

    2. Follow the SSL provider’s instructions for creating the SSL Certificate.

    3. SSL provider will confirm that you own the domain and the CSR matches the server the domain is pointed at.

    4. SSL provider will then give you the SSL Certificate by link or email.

  3. Install the SSL certificate

    Follow the SSL provider’s instructions to install the SSL Certificate.

    Step 6. Obtain AVEVA™ Insight encrypted connection string

    Step 7. Send SSL thumbprint to AVEVA

    1. Obtain SSL Certificate thumbprint

      Search for online instructions on how to obtain an SSL Certificate thumbprint from your Server.

    2. Provide thumbprint string to AVEVA

      Send the thumbprint string and AVEVA™ Insight Solution name to AVEVA DevOps.
