When you launch Studio, the Project Explorer tool window is visible. Project Explorer provides an expandable hierarchy into which you can insert items to represent your plant or process.

Display Project Explorer

  • Click the Project Explorer tab.

Project hierarchy

Each item is a node in the hierarchy, and items can branch off from other items as child nodes. When you add an item to a project, it displays in the project hierarchy.

It is common practice to layout the project hierarchy to mirror the plant or process that your project models. Studio provides many standard items to help you structure your project quickly. For more information, see About the plant hierarchy.
