AVEVA™ Production Management

Capturing energy consumption

  • Last UpdatedDec 09, 2024

The amount of energy being used in a manufacturing process can account for a significant portion of operating cost. If the amount of energy consumed can be reduced, there is a large potential for savings. In addition, you may want to track energy usage to meet environmental guidelines.

The purpose of capturing energy consumption is to:

  • Reduce operating costs

  • Increase profitability

  • Meet energy usage guidelines

How does AVEVA Production Management capture energy consumption?

  • Analyze the production facility to assess where energy comes into the process, how it flows through process, which pieces of equipment consume the most energy.

  • Review historical energy performance and determine energy driver relationships.

  • Identify Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure energy usage against production totals. For example, kWh per tons or kWh per hour.

  • Set optimal energy consumption targets.

Performance indicators

To understand how energy is consumed around the plant, AVEVA™ Production Management collects energy data and combines it with Production data to provide operational context. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are developed so that you can identify and reduce your energy usage targets.

A common KPI is to determine is how much energy is consumed per unit of product. For example:

  • Energy per unit (kWh per unit)

  • Energy per ton (kWh per tonne)

You may also want to examine energy usage by time. For example:

  • Energy per hour
