Add and configure a product hierarchy

Important: AVEVA™ Production Management introduces the ability to define materials, but retains the ability to define products. Future development of AVEVA Production Management will phase out products and use only materials. Meanwhile, you may have to maintain materials and products, depending on the AVEVA™ Production Management modules that your project uses.
If your project contains modules that reference only materials, you are not required to add products. If you add a product, good practice is to add a corresponding material because future versions of AVEVA™ Production Management will phase out products and use only materials in every module. When you configure a product, use the Material property of the product to reference the corresponding material.
Use product groups to organize products
If you add products to your project, it is a good idea to add products to one location in the project to make it easier for you to organize and maintain. You can use product groups as folders to separate products into logical groups.

Add a product for product hierarchy

Right-click a Product Group or the project node, point to Add Item, point to Products, and then click Product. A new Product item appears.

Rename the product with a meaningful name.
