About Knowledge

Knowledge captures important information and knowledge from the people who are closest to plant production. Knowledge records can be created automatically by utilizing reporting point fields to collect data. This information is then combined to form the Knowledge record with additional input from the operators. For example, the Knowledge module can be used to provide Operators with an online shift log.

  • Diary records (Operator Log) - Knowledge includes an online diary, which is commonly used as an Operator Log. An operator log provides a record of the details that an operator observes and captures within a given shift.

  • Document links - Knowledge can link relevant documents, video files, and image files to plant areas, products, and product groups so that staff can immediately find the information they require such as equipment manuals, schematics, and operating procedures.

How can you use Knowledge?

Knowledge can be:

  • A repository to capture improvement ideas.

  • A data source that you can use with Metrics to calculate the average ideas per the time hierarchy and "% of ideas implemented".

  • A repository to capture corrective-action reports.

  • A repository for end-of-shift notes or reports for shift handovers.

  • A repository to capture Lean rankings (for example, 5S, and Teamwork) at the end of a period (for example, shift, day, or week).

  • A reference library that provides a central location to view relevant documentation that is essential to production.

  • A project-tracking tool with task breakdown and assignment, which is especially helpful when you look at implementing improvement ideas.

  • A way to capture drawings associated with some of the above.
