AVEVA™ Production Management

Add and configure an AVEVA variable

  • Last UpdatedDec 16, 2022
  • 1 minute read

An AVEVA variable represents a variable tag or data point on a AVEVA™ Historian server. AVEVA™ Production Management updates tag items every time the AVEVA Data Source item polls the AVEVA Historian server and detects changes to the values of variables on the server.

For more information, see Understanding AVEVA variables.

Note: The AVEVA Connector library was formerly called the Wonderware Connector library.

Prerequisites

Before adding a variable, add and configure an AVEVA connector group.

Guidelines

You can add multiple variables to a project. Add a separate AVEVA variable item for each variable tag on the AVEVA Historian server that you want to use. You can map multiple variable items to the same variable tag on the AVEVA™ Historian server.

To add an AVEVA variable

  1. In the Project Explorer, right-click the group, and then click Add Variable. A new AVEVA Variable item appears.

Studio project hierarchy showing the AVEVA data source item with its child components.

  2. Rename the item with a meaningful name.

  3. Configure the properties. For guidance in configuring the properties, see AVEVA connector variable properties.
