About Quality Moving Forward

Quality Moving Forward (QMF) brings quality data forward on an individual measurement level instead of at the record level. Quality information points to existing quality data so that quality data is not duplicated.

How does QMF work?

When quality data is moved forward, AVEVA™ Production Management checks for local quality values at the destination, and at the source. If there is no local quality data, and quality moving forward is enabled, AVEVA™ Production Management uses the link back to existing quality data to provide the quality value. Only fields that do not have local quality in the destination are moved forward.

When QMF is enabled, you can insert or update local quality data at any point, and the quality is moved forward from that point onwards. You can move quality forward for a Material Quality reporting point, or a Calculated Quality reporting point.

Note: Local quality is quality recorded at the selected location/destination; for example, quality recorded at the destination equipment. Quality moved forward is quality recorded in a different location, then linked to and used at the selected location/destination; for example, quality recorded in the source equipment and used at the destination equipment.

Important: The destination field name is required to be the same as the source field name for QMF to work correctly.

Work centers and work units

Configure work centers and work units to use QMF.

You can use the UseQualityMovingForward property to specify whether the associated quality is moved forward through the destination work center or work unit.

If the UseQualityMovingForward property is set to True, the following actions occur:

  • AVEVA™ Production Management checks if the equipment has an associated Material Quality reporting point to define the structure of the quality value to move forward.

  • The QualityMovingForwardPriority property becomes available.

  • The UseQualityMovingForward property becomes available on fields added to the Material Quality reporting point.

Note: This applies to destination equipment only. The UseQualityMovingForward property is not available for Input or Output work centers, or if the LotBehavior for the work center is set to Mixed.

When the UseQualityMovingForward property is set to True, you can use the QualityMovingForwardPriority property to select the preferred quality to move forward through the destination equipment. You can choose WAQ or Material Quality. When the quality you select to move forward does not exist for the material or the source equipment, AVEVA™ Production Management uses the second quality option.

Note: This applies only when a material with Material Quality comes into a destination equipment, and the source equipment has a Weighted Average Quality.

Fields

When the UseQualityMovingForward property is set to True on a work center or work unit, the UseQualityMovingForward field is also available on fields added to the Material Quality reporting point. You can use the UseQualityMovingForward property at the field level to specify whether the associated quality is moved forward through the destination fields. By default, this field is set to False for the Comments field and True for other fields.
