Develop a communication plan

Before you perform any upgrade tasks that can result in a disruption to service, have a communication plan in place.

The purpose of the communication plan is to communicate the planned maintenance to your users with details such as:

  • Scheduled date and time for service disruption.

  • Reason for service disruption.

  • Expected time duration.

  • Any changes to operation that result from the planned upgrade.

You may want to inform users that a message appears if their client is open while the upgrade occurs.
