Sample configuration: Capturing Energy Consumption
This topic provides an example to capture energy consumption with the Production and Metrics modules. In this example, the goal is to configure the kWh per tonne metric.
Sample configuration: Capturing Energy consumption
This sample configuration contains four parts:
Part 1: Configure kWh per tonne
Part 2: Configure the Production reporting point items
Part 3: Configure the Energy Consumption reporting point items
Part 4: Configure the Energy Metrics reporting point items
Part 1 – Configure kWh per tonne
In this sample configuration, the kWh per tonne metric is configured as way to capture energy consumption. This requires the use of several different AVEVA™ Production Management modules. You configure two Production reporting points, one for Production values, and one for Energy Consumption values, and a Metrics reporting point, and then configure each of those three main areas.
The high-level task provides a link to more details about configuring that specific area. However, finish the tasks in part 1 before you proceed to parts 2, 3, and 4.
Design Considerations: This example uses two Production reporting points to show that the Production and Energy records are usually captured separately. One reason for doing this is different capture periods. Production records often have a longer duration between captures, such as 60 minutes in this example. Energy is more commonly captured at much smaller intervals, such as 15 or 30 minutes. In addition, the production and energy consumption reporting points may capture a large number of additional fields. Some common examples of additional energy fields include apparent energy, apparent power, reactive energy, min/max/avg demand values and power factor.
Create three reporting points
Create the following three reporting points:
-
A Production reporting point to record production data. Rename this reporting point Production.
-
A Production reporting point to record energy consumption. Rename this reporting point Energy Consumption.
-
A Metrics reporting point to combine the production and energy consumption values to produce the kWh per tonne metric. Rename this reporting point Energy Metrics.

Add items to the Production reporting point
-
Add a capture condition called 60 Minutes to the Production reporting point.
-
Add three fields to the Production reporting point: Crew, Shift, and Tonnes.

Add items to the Energy Consumption reporting point
-
Add a capture condition called 15 Minutes to the Energy Consumption reporting point.
-
Add the following fields to the Energy Consumption reporting point: Capture Location, Crew, Equipment, kWh, Max kW, Min kW, Record Type, and Shift.

Add items to the Energy Metrics reporting point
-
Add three KPIs to the Energy Metrics reporting point: kWh per tonne, Total kWh, and Total tonnes.
