About Channels

The Channels enable workflows to make available work items assigned to users through different media. Channels can be defined for specific media types, which are called Channel Types in AVEVA Work Tasks. Channel Types include Web, Windows Forms, and SMS among others. Each Channel will support only one Channel Type.

Human Workflow Services (HWS) Activities in AVEVA Work Tasks announce their support for different Channels. For instance, some Activities will not support some of the Channels. Depending on the Channel selected, the Work Item corresponding to the Activity gets delivered to the Actor on the associated Channel Type. This is useful in situations where managers who have approval authority are away from their desk or are traveling. If more than one Channel is specified then the work item will get delivered on all the related Channel Types. This allows Actors to access and respond to Work Items from almost anywhere.

AVEVA Work Tasks provides the Web Worklist Channel as the default channels.
