Create a New Folder using XML Variable

Folders can be created in a list using System Internal Variables if the list allows folders to be created. This can be done using Update Variable activity.

Follow the steps below to create a folder in Workflow list which allows folders to be created.

To create a new folder using XML Variable

  1. Right-click the Start activity and select Activity Properties from the options.

  2. Click the More button in the XMLVariables field.

  3. Create a new variable of type XML List. Select list as Workflow. The XML variable scope should be set as New.

  4. Then drag and drop Update Variable activity. Click the Set Variables button icon in the Set Variables field.

  5. Click the Select link and then click the drop-down list that appears. Navigate to the Title field of the new variable and set its value. The value for the Title field will be the name of the new folder.

  6. To create a new folder, select AsFolder from the SaveAs options under System:Internal. Set its value to true.

  7. If your list is version enabled and you want the status of the created folder to be Published, select Published from the SaveAs options under System:Internal. Set its value to true.

  8. Click OK to save the settings.

  9. Publish the workflow. Execute the workflow to create a new folder.

    Note: Folder names are not allowed to have special characters like - :"\\""'<>;|*/{}?
