Error when changing communication state

When changing the state of a change communication which includes a change to the budget of one or more progress measures, you may see the following error message after clicking Update State:

Cannot set the state of this communication to <NewState> because this would cause one or more progress measures to be overclaimed.

This can occur when:

  • You are adding a change item that reduces the budget of a progress measure in a communication that has a reporting category of Approved Change.

  • You are updating a change item that reduces the budget of a progress measure in a communication that has a reporting category of Approved Change.

  • You are deleting a change item that updates the budget of a progress measure in a communication that has a reporting category of Approved Change.

  • The change of communication state will update the reporting category of the communication to Approved Change.

  • The change of communication state will update the reporting category of the communication from Approved Change to another reporting category.

  • You are manually updating the reporting category of the communication to Approved Change.

  • You are manually updating the reporting category of the communication from Approved Change to another reporting category.

To avoid triggering this message, where possible, revert the changes which have caused it.
