A Server Farm comprises physical servers that run logical services. Physical servers are tangible machines. Logical services are installed on physical servers. Some logical services run on Web servers and others run on AVEVA Work Tasks Servers. Logical services are installed on one or more physical servers. The logical services running on a physical server determines the role of the server in the server farm.
Example:
The server running a database is called the database server.
The following table lists the server roles based on the application/services running on a server:
|
Applications/Services running on a Server |
Server Role |
|---|---|
|
Database applications |
Farm Database Server and Repository Database Server |
|
Workflow Engine, Task Scheduler, and Communication services |
AVEVA Work Tasks Server |
|
Advance Server service,Workflow Engine, Task Scheduler, and Communication services |
Enterprise Server or Clustering Server |
|

The number and kind of servers required to perform a particular role depend on many factors, such as the number of users, volume of data, and performance of the solution required.
