Limitations of File Watcher

  • Last UpdatedApr 25, 2024

File Watcher has the following limitations:

  1. If you add more number of files at the same time, there are chances of missing some events in the added files.

  2. When you open a file from the folder to be watched, modify it, and then save it, proper events might not get triggered.

  3. To modify the file in the Watching folder:

    1. Create a copy of the file in a different location.

    2. Modify the file.

    3. Copy and paste the modified file in the monitoring folder.

  4. When the same file is copied more than once to the monitoring folder, then File Watcher checks for the last modified date time. If the date time is same, then no event is raised. If the last modified date time is different, then the Changed Event is raised. If you copy the same file after sometime, the Changed Event is raised.

  5. File Watcher does not support desktop files.

  6. File Watcher does not support sub-folders. If you create, change, rename, or delete a file in another folder in the folder to be watched, no event gets triggered.

  7. Folder names with special characters, other than underscore '_' and space, are not allowed.

  8. You can add a network folder to the folders list. To enable to watch the network path, the Workflow Engine service should start with a user account who has network access. Local user account cannot watch the network path.
