Create a Workflow

In this article you will learn how to create your first AVEVA Work Tasks workflow. The "Hello World” workflow that you create will send an information to the workflow initiator with the subject line “Hello World”.
Prerequisites

Download and install the latest AVEVA Work Tasks version.

Create a repository.

Log on to the repository using Administrator credentials.

To design a Workflow

Log on to the Enterprise Console.

In the Enterprise Console, click
menu icon, and then click Workflows.
The Workflows page appears.

On the action bar, click New, and then click Workflow.
The New Workflow wizard appears.

In the Title box, type a name for the workflow, and in the Description box, type a description for the workflow.

Click Save & Continue.
The workflow is created, and the Workflow Options wizard appears.

Do one of the following.

Design the workflow

Click Design the Workflow now.

Click Finish. The Process Designer page appears.

Design the workflow.

Cancel further operations.
-
Click No task to be performed now.
-
Click Finish. The workflow is saved.

Open the workflow in Process Designer.

Drag an Information activity from the Human Activities to the design area.

Right-click Information activity, and then click Activity Properties.
The Activity Properties window appears.

Configure the Information activity properties.
-
Enter a Name and Description for the activity.

Click the edit icon near the Assign Actor(s) property.
The Assign Actor(s) appears.

You have to assign the Information task to the user who has triggered the workflow. For this, you have to specify a small expression:

Select the required provider from the Providers list.

Select ID from the first drop-down list.

Keep the operator as default "=".
-
Select Variable from the next drop-down list.

Select Variable.SubmittedBy.ID in the last drop-down list and click Add.

Click Update to save the property value.

Configure the Subject property:

Click the edit icon near the Subject property. The Subject appears.

Enter the subject in the text area as "Hello World!".

Click Update.

Configure the Body property:

Click the edit icon near the Body property. The Body page appears.

Enter the subject in the text area as "This is my first Information Activity", and then click Update.

Click Update.

Click Save in the Activity Properties pane to save all the data entered.
Every time you input a value for a property, ensure to save the data. Click the Save button on the Activity Properties window. You need to save the property so that the subsequent properties in the activity can inherit the required information.
Click the Link icon to add a link. The Link Action appears. -
Select the From Action as Start (the name of the activity from which the link begins) and To Action as MyNewInformationActivity (the name of the activity at which the link ends).

Click OK to establish the link. Your first workflow is created.
To publish and execute the workflow

Click Publish from the menu of the Process Designer.
A message appears to confirm that the workflow is published successfully.

Click Close.
The Process Designer closes and the Workflows list appears. The list now displays one new workflow.

Right-click MyFirstWorkflow, and then click Publish and Test Run.
This option publishes the workflow and then test runs it. You can skip step 1 and directly proceed to this step.

The Process execution view appears where you can see the execution status.
You will notice that the Start Activity and the Information Activity are executed successfully.
Note: If the Status is "Execution Pending" in the Process execution view window, then click the Refresh button to get the latest status.
To view the Inbox

In the Enterprise Console, click
menu icon, and then click Inbox.
In the Inbox you will find an information task with the Subject "Hello World!".

Click on the Information task in the Inbox.
The details of the work item appears.
You have successfully created your first workflow.
