    Folder Configuration Options

    Description

    Buffer Size

Sets the size of the internal buffer. The default value is 16000 bytes and must not exceed 64000 bytes. For best performance, use a multiple of 4000 on Intel-based computers.

File Watcher keeps track of the file changes, and stores those changes in a buffer and passes them to the APIs. Each file change event can use up to 16 bytes of memory, not including the file name. If there are many changes in a short time, the buffer can overflow. This causes the File Watcher to lose track of the changes in the directory, and it will only provide blank notification. Increasing the size of the buffer can prevent missing file system change events. We recommend you to increase the buffer size to prevent the buffer overflow.

Increasing buffer size is expensive because it comes from a non-paged memory that cannot be swapped out to disk. So it is advised to keep the buffer as small as possible. To avoid a buffer overflow, you can use the NotifyFilter property to filter out unwanted change notifications.

Note: File watcher internally sets the include subdirectories property to False to filter out unwanted change notifications.

See FileSystemWatcher.InternalBufferSize Property for more details.

    Notify Filter:

Filters unwanted change notifications in the folder and helps to avoid buffer overflow. The default setting is Minimum to get optimum change notifications. The Minimum setting includes only created, deleted, and renamed events. Select the Maximum option to capture all the events fired which includes created, deleted, renamed, and also the changed events.

    Created

Choose the Yes option to consume the Created event and the No option if you do not want it to be consumed.

    Changed

Choose the Yes option to consume the Changed event and the No option if you do not want it to be consumed.

    Deleted

Choose the Yes option to consume the Deleted event and the No option if you do not want it to be consumed.

    Renamed

Choose the Yes option to consume the Renamed event and the No option if you do not want it to be consumed.

  4. Click Update. The message "Folder Configuration updated successfully. Please restart the service." appears.

  5. Click OK.

  6. Restart the Workflow Engine service to activate the modified settings.
