  • 3 minute read

The Log or Transaction settings define the level of log information displayed in the AVEVA Work Tasks Console.

Field Name

Description

Debug Level

Select from three debug levels.

  • Level 1 shows minimal information in the AVEVA Work Tasks Logger Console, giving only information on the start and end of the workflow. Error messages are also shown in this mode. This is the default mode.

  • Level 2 shows detailed information of what is happening in the background. It will show all the messages logged from the actions.

  • Level 3 shows only messages indicating whether the action is executed.  All error messages logged in the logger console will be sent to receiver email specified in Exception Emails.

Persist Exception in database

Select either True or False.

  • If True is selected, you will be allowed to persist the exceptions which are logged in the Logger Console to the Repository database. This in turn allows you to view exceptions at the following levels:

    • Workflow level

    • Workflow Instance level

    • Activity level

  • This is the default value. If False is selected, you will not be allowed to persist the exceptions which are logged in the Logger Console to the Repository database. Refer example scenario below.

Persist Warning in database

Select either True or False.

  • If True is selected, you will be allowed to persist the warnings which are logged in Logger Console to the Repository database. Which in turn allows you to view warnings at the following levels:

    • Workflow level

    • Workflow Instance level

    • Activity level

  • This is the default value. If False is selected, you will not be allowed to persist the  warnings which are logged in Logger Console to the Repository database.

Example Scenario

Consider the scenario where numerous workflows are running and an instance has failed, then, you can view the exception details from the UI instead of searching the log files.

  1. In the Farm Configuration Wizard, go to Service settings.

  2. In the Global Settings window, select Log/Transactions tab.

  3. Select the appropriate values from drop down to enable the persistence of the exceptions or warning.

At Workflow Level:

  1. In the Enterprise Console, click menu con, and then click Workflows.

    The Workflows page appears.

  2. Select and right-click any workflow.

  3. Click View Exceptions from the context menu.

A pop-up window opens and lists all the exceptions occurred for that workflow. Here it lists all the exceptions occurred for different workflow instance.

    At Workflow Instance level:

This can be viewed from BAM reports.

    1. In the Enterprise Console, click menu icon, and then click Reports.

The AVEVA Work Tasks Business Activity Monitoring page appears.

    2. Click Analyze, click Execution, and then click Failed.

This lists all the failed workflow instances.

    3. Double-click and open any record.

The Process Execution view of the record opens.

    4. Click the View exception tab.

All the exceptions occurred for this particular workflow instance are listed.

      At Activity level:

This can be viewed from BAM reports.

      • Go to Enterprise Console, point to Reports, point to Analyze, point to Execution, and then click Failed link.

This will list all the failed workflow instances. Select any record by double clicking the item. This will open the window where the user can see the workflow process from Analyst View, Progress view, or Execution View. Click any of the tabs and double click on the failed activity. This will open a new pop up window where details of that particular activity can be seen. In the window screen click on the View Exceptions tab which is present on the bottom right of the page which will lists all the exceptions occurred for this activity.
