Transfer configurations between projects

  • Last UpdatedApr 02, 2026
  • 2 minute read

Use this feature to transfer existing configurations from one project to another. This reduces the time required to set up similar environments.

Prerequisites

Before using this feature, ensure that the MDB you sign into includes the Cross-Product Database. If the database is missing, the Compare/Update option becomes unavailable.

Note: From AVEVA Unified Engineering version 4.1 onwards, Compare and Update configurations are stored in the Cross-Product Database instead of XML files. This improves security and supports new project requirements.

Impact on existing configurations

Configurations created in previous versions do not appear automatically. To migrate XML-based configurations from disk:

  • Use the PML function to import disk-based configurations into the database.

    !c=object compareUpdate()

    !c.ImportCompareUpdateConfigurationFiles('C:\Users\Public\Documents\AVEVA\Projects\E3D4.3\EPT\eptdflts\CUConfigs2.0')

  • Use the Import option in the UI to import configurations for a selected source.

Transfer configurations

Use this procedure to export configurations from one project and import them into another.

Note: When you import or migrate configurations from one project to another, any existing configurations in the destination project are overwritten.

Export configurations

  1. Right-click the source database from which you want to export configurations.

Note: The Export option is available only if the database contains configurations.

  2. Select Export.

  3. Select a folder to save the configuration files, then select OK.

    The configurations are exported.

Import Configurations

  1. Open the project where you want to import the configurations.

  2. Right-click the target database and select Import.

  3. Select the configuration files to import, and select OK.

    The configurations are imported.

    Important

    • Select Save Work after creating or importing configurations to avoid data loss.

    • Each source is now stored as a database element. Reverse configurations create a claimed DB element for design. Unclaim the DB element and select Save Work before accessing the same configuration from other modules or instances.

    • These guidelines apply to all modules that use Compare and Update functionality.
