  • Last UpdatedJan 23, 2023
  • 2 minute read

Allows the creation and deletion of Annotation Visual Layers. Functionality is also available to modify the Annotation Visual Layer properties.

Note:
Visual layer (VLAYER) elements should not be confused with View annotation layer (LAYER) elements.

The Visual Layers window lists the layers of the current sheet. By default, all sheets have a layer named 0. The layer cannot be renamed or deleted.

Create new layer

Click to add a new layer. The new layer is assigned a default name of Visual Layer x, where x is the first free integer.

You can amend the default attributes. Layer names must be unique for each sheet.

Delete selected layers

Click to delete the currently selected layer.

Note that layer 0 layers, containing elements and the current layer (indicated with a tick in the Current column) cannot be deleted.

Current

A tick in the column indicates that the layer is the current drawing layer.

Name

Indicates the name of the layer. Double click the cell to modify the name.

Colour

Click the cell and select a colour from the drop-down list to define the layer colour.

Items created on the layer are drawn in the selected colour, this can be subsequently overridden.

Line Type

Click the cell and select a line type from the drop-down list to define the layer line type.

Lines created on the layer are drawn with the selected line type, this can be subsequently overridden.

Visibility

Click the cell to indicate the display status of the layer.

If the cell displays ON, the layer is visible, this is the default setting.

If the cell displays OFF, the layer is not visible. This overrides an Export status of ON.

Export

Click the cell to indicate the print/export status of the layer.

If the cell displays ON, the layer is printed and exported, this is the default setting.

If the cell displays OFF, the layer is not printed or exported.

Note:
Visual layer references are retained for copied elements. If the visual layer on the target sheet has an identical title, the colours and line styles of the copied element change to reflect the target sheet visual layer.
