Error Handling and Logging

This section describes handling and logging the different errors that can occur while using IFC Export.

Mapping File Error

Different categories of the mapping file read error can occur:

  • Mapping file did not have a valid start or end XML element node.

  • Mapping file is syntactically invalid.

  • Mapping file is syntactically valid but does not have the valid element mapping node.

  • Mapping file is configured as another file and does not have the element mapping defined for IFC Export.

    Note:
    This information is logged to the log file based on the Log Level.

EXPRESSION Error

Different categories of the EXPRESSION error can occur during the parsing of the mapping file for IFC Export:

  • AVEVA E3D Design elements mapped are not supported by Design DB schema.

  • E3DRule EXPRESSION is not syntactically valid.

  • E3DRule EXPRESSION is not a Boolean expression.

  • The Property Value EXPRESSION is not syntactically valid.

  • There is a E3DRule EXPRESSION evaluation error.

    Note:
    These information are logged to the log file based on the Log Level.

Log Level and Logging Information

Use the Logging window to configure the log level.

  • The BRIEF log level contains information on:

    • The error(s) in the mapping file and PML Expression.

    • The errors encountered on IFC file schema validation are also reported.

  • The FULL log level contains additional information on:

    • The exported IFC file spatial hierarchical structure.

    • A summary of IFC Elements exported without Geometry.

  • The DEBUG log level contains additional information on:

    • AVEVA E3D Design Element Export Details.

    • A summary of IFC Assembly Structure.

    • Details of IFC Elements exported without Geometry.

    • AVEVA E3D Design elements and if or how these were mapped.
