The Catalog database which is a reference database contains a catalog of the standard components where component selection is provided through specifications that dictate which catalog components can be used.
It may contain a single ‘universal’ catalog, but it will more commonly contain a general catalog plus one or more specialized catalogs specific to particular design functions.
