Tolerance

The tolerance value has an effect on minimum dimensions, for example, facet size, or arc tolerances in rendering circular shapes. The tolerance setting can have a significant effect on the time taken to produce the IFC file and the file size. The smaller the tolerance value, the longer the export takes. The default setting is 10 mm, which has been found to be a reasonable compromise in export model quality and time.

Note:
A large tolerance setting can exclude smaller items from the export file and curved surfaces can display as more angular.

The example displays an exported model with different tolerance settings. With a higher tolerance setting (10 mm), curved edges are angular and some detail is lost. For example, the radial spars on the hand-wheels are lost because their diameter is less than 10 mm.
