Worked Example

The example roof structure can be replaced with a simple beam.

Navigate to the to storage area for the replacement GENSEC. Click CE to set the storage area.

Note:
The storage area should use a hierarchy whose Purpose attribute is set to BEAM.

Select all the GENSECs in the roof graphically. Click Add Selection in the window. All the GENSECs selected are listed in the GENSECs list.

Define the Start and End position of the replacement GENSEC.

Click Derive points from graphic picks and then pick the upper end of one of the columns connecting to the roof.

Select End from the Positioning GENSEC drop-down list.

Pick the upper end of the other column connecting to the roof.

The Start and End position of the replacement GENSEC is now listed in the Simplified GENSEC Position list.

Press ESC on the keyboard to escape the EDG mode.

Click Create to create the replacement GENSEC.

The Section Specification of the replacement GENSEC is initially set to the default specification for the creation of structural sections. Refer to Default Section Specification for further information.

Use the Properties window to modify the Section Specification once the GENSEC has been created.
