Conditionally Modify Control Display

Modifies the control display using a condition based rule.

  1. Create a new report.

  2. Bind the report to a data source.

  3. On the Field List window, click the Field List tab and select the required field item.

  4. Drag and drop the selected field item onto the Detail blank space of the report. A control is created which displays the name of the field item and the yellow database icon. Add multiple field items to the report.

  5. Deselect all controls and make sure the report name is displayed at the top of the Properties window.

  6. On the Properties window, click the Appearance tab.

  7. Click the ellipsis next to Formatting Rule Sheet to display the Formatting Rule Sheet Editor window.

  8. Click Add a formatting rule to create the new rule and define the rule properties.

  9. Define the display format. In the example, the field Background Color displays green if the condition is satisfied.

  10. Click the ellipsis next to Condition to display the Condition Editor window.

  11. Define the Boolean condition. In the example, the fields are formatted if the [COVX] field is greater than 120.

  12. Click OK to save the condition and close the Condition Editor window.

  13. Click Close to save the formatting rule and close the Formatting Rule Sheet Editor window.

  14. Click the band or control to associate the formatting rule, (in this example, the Detail band).

  15. On the Properties window, click the Appearance tab.

  16. Click the ellipsis next to Formatting Rules to display the Formatting Rules Editor window.

  17. Use the arrow buttons to move the currently selected rule in the Rules available in a report list to the Rules applied to a control list.

    Note:
    Multiple formatting rules can be applied. Rules are applied in the order that they display in the list, the last rule in the list has the highest priority. Use the up and down buttons to modify the rules priority.

  18. Click OK to apply the formatting rules and close the Formatting Rules Editor window.

  19. Click the Print Preview tab to display the result.

    Note:
    In the Print Preview, the rows with an LCG value greater than 120 display with a green background. The LCG column is populated using the [COVX] field item in the report designer.
