Section Attributes

A Section is a linear structural component for example, a universal beam, column, brace, tie, strut. Sections are assumed to be ‘prismatic’; that is, they are assumed to have uniform properties throughout their length, including uniform cross-sectional dimensions.

The overall dimensions of a 3D design Section are derived from two sources:

  • Its cross-sectional dimensions are defined by a cross-reference to a 2D Profile element stored in the Catalog DB.

  • Its length is derived from the separation between the points defined by its Start Position (POSS) and End Position (POSE) attributes.

This section describes the main attributes which together define a Section as a 3D physical entity within the interconnected structure.
