As before the environment variable %AVEVA_DESIGN_EXE% is used to locate the executable on module switch. It is also used to locate attlib.dat (attribute and noun definitions), message.dat (message definitions), desvir.dat (schema definition) Normally AVEVA E3D Design is started from launch.bat which is accessed via %PATH%. Both %AVEVA_DESIGN_EXE% and %PATH% should include the install directory.
