This section discusses graphical content organization. It does not include topics on graphical content creation.
MWX organization
Graphic content can be divided into three categories:
-
Virtual field. Representation of the plant equipment.
-
Animation. Special content that represents equipment behavior or malfunctions.
-
Environment. Landscape, curtains, skydome and so on.
Virtual Field
Generally, the virtual field is very large, which makes it difficult to manage it as a unique content.
The field is often created by importing multiple CAD files. It is a good practice to split the field into several files that generally follow the CAD files separation.
Example grouping
The typical grouping criteria could be based as follows.
-
Area. Splitting the plant in sectors.
-
P&ID. 1 to 1 with the base documentation.
-
Main Equipment. Grouping all the content belonging a single main equipment.
Animation
A good practice is to create a dedicated MWX for each animation.
For more information, see Animation conventions.
Environment
It is a good practice to put all the environment-related files in a single MWX file example.
Unit of measure
When creating graphical content for the virtual plant, note that the unit of measure for the entire system (rendering, logic, and physics) is meter. This means that the content, such as meshes and animations, must be in meters.
Graphical content structuring
Graphic context organization does not need to reflect the MWX structure.
A single graphic context can include one or more MWX.
Good practice
It is good practice to:
-
Create a separate graphic context for each animation that has a dedicated MWX.
-
Create an unique graphic context for all the environment contents.
-
Create area based graphic contexts eventually grouping more MWX.
-
Limit the number of area based graphic contexts (6 to 10).
