Notes about scaling

These are notes about scaling.

  • Scaling transformations are not guaranteed to work for every part of the engine.

  • Objects loaded from an MWX are stripped of any scale transformation. Only external tools, such as the XR Studio, can scale objects.

  • Generic meshes and collision meshes can be scaled. However, they may present graphical artifacts in particular when a non-uniform scale is applied to them.

  • The runtime-generated shaders should be correct for any kind of scaling.

Potential scaling issues

The hardcoded shaders may suffer from these non-uniformity issues.

  • Cubemaps. Reflections may display incorrectly.

  • Lighting. Specular may display incorrectly.

Billboards Visibility/Picking

A deformed Oriented Bounding Box (OBB) can create problems during visibility calculations and intersection tests.
