AVEVA™ XR Studio

Scene Explorer

  • Last UpdatedSep 26, 2025
  • 5 minute read

The Scene Explorer panel of XR Studio helps you to find items in the 3D View scene. The panel shows a combined list of all items in a scene, grouped by file source. The file source can be of different types, such as:

  • MWX

  • RFC

  • MwxSoup

  • SPC

  • SGL

  • POP

The table shows three columns:

  • Name. The name of the hierarchy element.

  • Type. The type of the object. The type may depend on the root file.

  • (Picking). The picking state of the object (enabled/disabled).

Note: By default, the Type column is kept hidden to improve readability of names.

Show Type column

  1. Right-click the table header, and select Column Chooser.

  2. Drag and drop the hidden column.

Picking state

The Lock column shows the picking state (enabled/disabled) of the object.

  • An object that has picking enabled can be selected from the Graphic Context Editor by clicking on its 3D geometry with the mouse. The enabled state is represented by a dot icon.

  • An object that has picking disabled cannot be selected from the Graphic Context Editor by clicking on its 3D geometry with the mouse. The disabled state is represented by a lock icon.

Picking state icons

The column contains icons representing the picking state (enabled/disabled) of the object.

It is possible to toggle the picking state on individual scenegraph nodes containing a geometry by clicking the dot or lock icon.

Note: Due to import actions, it can happen that Mwx and non-Mwx content appear under the same file. This is the case for a MwxSoup file with partially detached and skipped content.

An icon next to each element in the table enables you to easily identify the category of the row object, independently from its value in the Type column.

More information

The Scene Explorer is deeply coupled with the Graphic Context and actions performed on each of the two components often reflect on the other. For more information, see Use Scene Explorer.

Contextual actions can be taken on most content of the Scene Explorer depending on file, content type, and content status. For more information, see Scene Explorer context menu.

When selecting a large number of nodes, whether manually, with area selection, or through hierarchy selection, the process may take some time. To avoid long waiting periods, a progress indicator displays to provide an option to interrupt the selection, if needed.
